Week 1: June 3-7 – Full Day 9 am – 4 pm
Start Date: Monday, June 3 2024.
Description: This camp includes the morning session, Junior Camp Kelvin, and the afternoon session, Junior Space Pioneers. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own).
Camp Kelvin: Pack your bags and lace up your hiking boots engineers, because at Camp Kelvin, we are engineering designs to help us explore the great outdoors. Build a tent, design waterproof clothing, engineer your own survival pack and more! Join us for a week of fun and adventure where everyone goes home a happy camper!
Junior Space Pioneers: Embark on fun journey to space with Scratch! Send an astronaut to the moon and defend your moon base from space rocks. Learn how to use Scratch to create and program sprites, backdrops and basic scripts. Create a new program each day, leave with evidence of your wild space adventure, and be inspired to explore the universe of programming as a Space Pioneer.

Mission to Mars: Join us for an action-packed Mars-themed Junior Engineers camp! This week-long adventure combines engaging Mars-inspired children’s literature with exciting hands-on engineering challenges using EFK’s Engineering Design Process. Our young enthusiasts will dive into science, mechanical, aerospace, and environmental engineering, creating rovers, simulating NASA missions, and constructing hydroponic systems for sustaining life on Mars. They’ll also learn about historic space missions, including Apollo 11 and the Artemis program. This camp is a perfect blend of storytelling and practical engineering, designed to spark curiosity and a passion for space exploration in young minds. Prepare for a week filled with creativity, learning, and fun, as we journey together into the future of Mars exploration!
Junior Power & Energy: In the Engineering of Power and Energy, join us as we look at ways to get things moving…no batteries required. In this camp, students explore the foundational concepts of potential and kinetic energy by building their very own toys. Additionally, students will explore natural power and energy sources such as falling water and the sun. Get ready for a shock in this energetic and engaging engineering experience!

Week 3: June 17- – Full Day 9 am – 4 pm

Description: This camp includes the morning session, Junior World Games, and the afternoon session, Playful Playground Engineers. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own).
Junior World Games: Get ready for the Engineering For Kids World Games, where young minds compete for gold through thrilling engineering challenges inspired by the greatest athletic competitions! This program offers an exciting blend of science and engineering concepts applied to various sports. Participants will use EFK’s Engineering Design Process in diverse activities:
- Archery: Harnessing force, precision, and accuracy, students build their own archery sets from pool noodles and compete to see whose arrows fly farthest and most accurately.
- Track and Field: Discovering potential and kinetic energy, they’ll construct catapults for high jump and long jump competitions, applying math skills to measure height and distance.
- Miniature Golf: Exploring shapes and angles, kids design obstacles for a mini-golf course, then test their creations in multiple rounds of play.
- Gymnastics: Investigating balance and material strength, students construct durable balance beams for a gymnastics routine competition.
- Swimming and Diving: Learning about surface tension, they create swimmers that traverse water, racing to the finish line.
Playful Playground Engineers: In this camp, students will become mechanical engineers that have been hired to design the ultimate playground in their community. Playgrounds are packed full of simple machines such as levers, wheels and axles, inclined planes, and pulleys. In these lessons students will learn about the simple machines they encounter every day at the playground, while advancing their literacy skills through a variety of read alouds. They will tackle fun and engaging challenges while using the EFK Engineering Design Process. We can’t wait to play!

Week 4: June 24 – 28 Full Day 9 am – 4 pm
Start Date: Monday, June 24 2024.
Description: This camp includes the morning session, Zany Zoo Engineers, and the afternoon session, Twisted Fairy Tales. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own).
Zany Zoo Engineers: There is a big problem at your local zoo… the animals are very unhappy! They have outgrown their cages and are bored by their basic, concrete surroundings. In these lessons students will learn about engineering, mathematics, animals, and habitats while advancing their literacy skills through a variety of read alouds. They will work as zoo engineers and zoologists while using the EFK Engineering Design Process to design and build solutions to a variety of engineering challenges.
Twisted Fairy Tales: Ever wonder how we got to the Happily Ever After in traditional fairy tales? Students will explore a few fairy tales from different points of view and engage in activities to investigate solutions for each fairy tale’s obstacles. In the Twisted Fairy Tales Camp, we will design a getaway vehicle for the heroine from Kate and the Beanstalk, help The Three Billy Goats Fluff devise a method to cross the bridge quietly and not wake the Troll, and construct an edible reef entirely from candy to protect The Three Little Fish from the Big Bad Shark! Join us as we explore the Engineering of Fairy Tales.

This camp includes the morning session, How Amusing Week, and the afternoon session, Wreck it Week. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own). We are a nut-free campus.
How Amusing Week: Ah, the thrill of an amusement park…zipping around on racecars, zooming through the loops of a rollercoaster, trying your luck at a floating boat game, and enjoying a cold, refreshing ice cream treat at the end of a hot, sticky day. Can’t get better than that! During this camp, students will divide into competitive theme park teams. They will challenge other teams in specific engineering-related contests with the goal of creating the most fantastic and thrilling theme park experience. At the end of the week, only one team will emerge as the winner and will be granted the prestigious honor of creating the world’s next great amusement park for children ages 0-99 to enjoy for summers to come!
Wreck it Week: Smash! Crash! BOOM! Students in this camp will join Wrecking Companies for the week and will attempt to work their way up the ranks of their company from Intern to President. They will compete against other wrecking companies in various engineering-related challenges, such as building a bridge from balsawood and constructing safety mechanisms to protect a raw egg from impact. Put on your hard hats and safety goggles and join the fun!
Week 2: June 10-14 – Full Day 9 am – 4 pm

This camp includes the morning session, Amazing Race, and the afternoon session, Medeval Mayhem. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own). We are a nut-free campus
Amazing Race: 111 years ago airplanes had not even made their first flight, yet today we can fly to the other side of the world in 12 hours! It is thanks to advances in technology that we are able to explore so much of the world. Over the next five days teams will have to work together to see who is able to travel the farthest around the world. This trek around the world will require students to design their very own boat, plane, and even a rocket!
Medieval Mayhem: In Engineering of Medieval Times, students will explore mechanical and civil engineering. They will build infrastructure for their lands including bridges and towers, construct catapults to lay siege to others, and take part in jousting games.
Week 3: June 17- – Full Day 9 am – 4 pm
Start Date: Monday, June 17 2024.
This camp includes the morning session, Heroes Week, and the afternoon session, Agent of Change. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own). We are a nut-free campus
Heroes Week: During Heroes Week, students will explore the fields of environmental engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering as they design and construct tools that will help them protect the world, as all good superheroes do.
Agent of Change: In this camp students will explore electrical, environmental, marine, and mechanical engineering. They will explore harnessing energy, directional energy transformation, the relationships between potential energy and kinetic energy, and electrical circuitry.
Week 4: June 24 – 28 Full Day 9 am – 4 pm
Start Date: Monday, June 24 2024.
This camp includes the morning session, Design the future, and the afternoon session, Sail the Seas. Additionally, there will be lunch from noon – 1pm with supervised free time and an option to purchase a hot lunch (or young engineers can bring their own). We are a nut-free campus
Design the future: What does the future look like? Join us as we embark on an odyssey to explore the future of transportation, manufacturing and structural. Let’s take a look at the innovations of today and apply them to create the designs of tomorrow as we explore ways to harness clean energy and house a growing human population. Become an engineer and help Design the Future.
Sail the Seas: Avast, me maties! Jump on board and join the crew to work together to explore the every-day engineering challenges that pirates were once faced with. During this week, students will explore the ideas of buoyancy and surface area as they design their pirate ships, the sails for their ships, and a system to retrieve sunken treasures! So what do you say; Are ye’ ready to sail the seas?

Week 1 – June 3-7 – 9:30 am – 12 pm – Mission to Mars
Mission to Mars: Our Junior Engineers will be inspired by Mars-themed children’s literature featured in this week of camp. The stories will deepen their knowledge and spark their imaginations as they engage in hands-on engineering challenges using EFK’s Engineering Design Process. In the stories and challenges, students will explore various topics in science, as well as mechanical, aerospace, geologic, and environmental engineering. This camp is sure to spark children’s imagination and ignite their curiosity about the future of Mars exploration.
Week 2 – June 10 – 14 – 9:30 am – 12 pm – Wings, Wheels and Sails
Wings, Wheels and Sails: In The Engineering of Travel, students will explore areas of engineering such as mechanical, civil, marine, and aerospace engineering. They will explore the thought process behind road design, construct shapes that make sound bridges and test them, design a boat to float across the ocean, and discover and build designs that let us travel through the air and even into space. The following timetable lists the lesson sequence:

Week 5 – July 8 – 12 – 9:30 am – 12 pm – Medieval Defense
Medieval Defense: Do you have what it takes to defend your castle and maintain your family’s honor? If so, then don your armor and draw your sword for The Engineering of Medieval Times. In this camp, students build their very own castle and then work to defend it by engineering canons and catapults. Become a knight and join us on the question for glory and justice!
Week 6 – July 15-16 – 9:30 am – 12 pm Pirate Academy
Pirate Academy: Arg Matey! Come join Kelvin’s crew as we sail the ocean blue searching for buried treasure. Join us as students build their very own pirate ship, go fishing for treasure, and work together in Kelvin’s crew to create a delicious treat that is more precious than gold. Hop aboard the Green Ghost and set sail as we explore The Engineering of Pirates!
Week 7 – July 22 -26 – 9:30 am – 12 pm Junior Civil Fun Foundations
Junior Civil Fun Foundations: Get ready to raise the skyline as we learn all about the exciting field of civil engineering. This camp will teach students the foundations of civil engineering as they explore concepts, such as tension and compression, structurally strong geometric shapes, and the importance of a strong foundation and core. Each day students will use the EFK Engineering Design Process to take on captivating challenges that lay the groundwork for understanding the essential principles of structural design and construction. This camp is sure to tower above the rest and inspire the next generation of civil engineers.
Week 8 – July 29 – August 2 – 9:30 am – 12 pm – Twisted Fairy Tales
