Week 1 (Aug 8th to 12): Engineering Of Cities:

Cities are incredible feats of engineering. Giant skyscrapers made of steel and glass soars thousands of feet into the air. Cities began to form when farmers were able to make more food than they could eat, allowing other people to take up trades. Ancient cities were built to bring people together for protection, to promote trade, and improve efficiency. Over time, centralizing government, having art and culture centers, and bringing industries together to improve productivity all became key in development of cities. While many cities have developed over hundreds or even thousands of years, in modern times some cities, like Songdo in South Korea, are being built from the ground up in a very short time. Students will take up the role of a team of city planners, looking to design the best city in the world from the ground up. In The Engineering of Cities, students will explore civil, electrical, industrial, and environmental engineering. They will explore energy production, filtering of water filtration, and building structures.

Week 2 (Aug 15 to 19): Robotic Missions to Mars: Lego EV3

During this week of camp, students will learn all about NASA’s robotic Missions to Mars and the important role robots play in advancing our understanding of the Red Planet and paving the way for human exploration. Students will engage in hands-on robotic engineering challenges and learn to program their robots to perform a variety of scientific missions. Students will have the opportunity to apply their creativity and imagination to improve upon their basic designs and programs.

Week 3 (Aug 22 to 26): Engineering Olympiad (Competition)

Who has the strength to be a world-class athlete? In this five-day camp, students will separate into counties and will compete against opposing counties in various tests of mental and creative strength. The students will earn “medals” throughout the week and will endeavor to become the next great team of Olympians. Students will build a coaster, a canoe, a maglev train, and a zip sail.
